Hi,

You know, I just experimented with muting calls, adding a second person to the
conversation and using the hold feature that Richard kindly forwarded to the
list. There is definitely a difference between all three of these features.

As far as the hold is concerned, it is distinguished from simply muting a call
in that it mutes both ends of the conversation. This could come in handy
should you simply need a few seconds of complete silence on the call; for
example, if the person to whom you were speaking were in a car with a great
deal of ambient noise.

Mark

Unless Apple had actually some sort of hold tone or option to play music hold
and mute are really the same thing. If you want to put somebody on hold while
you do something you don’t want them to hear, you would just tell them that you
are putting them on a brief hold, then double tap the mute button and they
can’t hear you, however, you can still hear them because all mute does is to
mute your microphone.

There’s a mute button. Wouldn’t’ that more or less serve the same function?

You are correct. There is no hold button if you are on a single call.
It seems to me there used to be one.
This may be worth writing Apple to suggest adding it or bringing it back.
Anyone else remember there being a hold button?
Richard

Hi all, I can easily find hold and accept when another call is on waiting.
Won't this hold button appears while on simple ongoing call? I have to mute
but the person I am talking to thinks the line gets disconnected.

Thanks!
