I actually think those variances adjust more than just the pitch. My
memory fails me,but if I recall the various settings available to change
a voice, included inflection, head size and more.

I use NeoApeech Kate almost exclusively. To me, Kate sounds more
clear than Jakes. He doesn't sound too muffled, but I do find it
noticeable.
I think NeoSpeech uses 22 KHZ voices sometimes.
I aalso sometimes use Brigit, Emma, or Rona.
