Hi Cheryl,

I'm sending a copy of this to Harri, because I do believe there are buggy situations that need us to look more closely.

Harri may want to formulate some tasks for each of us to try out to help to squash (improve) this one. You certainly can mess things up quite easily ... so I just try to follow my pattern and for me it's OK, most of the time.

Read on for what I write in your circumstances, Cheryl:

I too find it more difficult to type on the 6S must my most comfortable position is to hold the phone with thumbs and little fingers on the edges, near to the corners. In this way you get to write with fingers a little more comfortably, I think. I also use the "away" mode exclusively as nothing else really works for me, though I play with others and can manage tabletop if I'm lying back in a chair. I find piano just too close and, if you use edges of the sreen, to try to keep your fingers in order, this doesn't work well for me without any dots to guide and I don't have any on my 6S. Again, if one could indicate where you want to place the fingers, it may work a little better.

I also changed one of the new settings, which is for away" mode to ensure the home button stays on the right. In all other circumstances I work in locked portrait mode and don't alter it when using mBraille. I don't have a split screen.

I have been trying to carry out a few tests and, though I can't work out a pattern right now as I'm not well and struggling to write anything, I am nevertheless convinced that it does depend on which you load first and/or what you're writing into with mBraille as to the results you get.

Perhaps Harri may want to take a closer look at this.

For me, I'm happy enough, knowing I don't have a split screen (usually anyway) and, when things don't work right, I just take both apps out of the switcher and that's usually sufficient.

I hope this helps a bit.

Please return my receipt or come back to me to let me know you have both seen this as my desktop doesn't allow me to indicate (as with the phone) that I wish to see responses to certain threads.

Hi,
I am experiencing the same problem as Bret. I could swipe three fingers right, all the way across the phone, and MBraille inserts an underscore, no matter how quickly or slowly, or how long or short I swipe.I am proficient with VO Braille Screen Input, but I would love to use the MBraille keyboard for its powerful features. But the inability to dismiss the keyboard stands in my way. Also, ever since I upgraded from my iPhone 5C to a 6S Plus, most of what I write using the MBraille keyboard doesn't come out correctly. I use MBraille in Away Mode, and I suspect that my hands are just too small. The iOS Braille keyboard lets you calibrate the dot positions, and that's probably why I've had a lot more success using it. Finally, the split screen view seems to interfere with MBraille. For example, I hold the phone in portrait orientation and double tap a text field to reply to an iMessage. I then activate the MBraille keyboard and rotate the phone to landscape mode, screen facing away from me. The MBraille keyboard is dismissed, as the phone switches to the split screen view with contacts on the left and conversations on the right. If anyone has any suggestions to offer regarding any of these issues, I welcome them. I would love to use MBraille as a third party keyboard, and not just in its standalone form.
Thanks!

Wow! I am so glad your MBraille experience is different to mine. I bought it before iOS braille was introduced and as a standalone app it works well and does have more editing features than iOS braille, but as a third-party keyboard, it is the buggiest program I have purchased. There is absolutely no support from the author at all.

For me the three finger swipe right to dismiss the MBraille keyboard never works. This is replicatable 100 percent of the time. Seriously, if your intrested in braille, learn to use the iOS keyboard and don't waist your money on purchasing bugs. I have received better support from apps that were free.

Cheers, Brett.

keep seeing a lot of flack on the mBraille list about how flaky some of this is, but I took to it and would prefer this method of working than any other. I haven't bought the feature you describe, but worked pretty well the last time I tried it, which is a hwile ago now. But I'm still on their list and I suppose there's no more flack there, than here about the rest of iOs.

I already had MBraille before the Apple Braille keyboard was released, so I have not taken the time to learn to use the Apple keyboard very well. I find it to be not quite as refined as is MBraille, although that very well could be due to operator incompetence. Also, it does not have the word processing ability of MBraille. If I want to edit anything, I have to use the regular Apple keyboard editing features, which are not as easy for me to use as those in MBraille.

A few months ago, I purchased the option to use MBraille as a third-party keyboard. At the time, it didn't seem to work very well for me as a third-party keyboard, so I forgot about it until last weekend when, for some reason which I do not remember now, I decided to try it again. I deleted that emogey keyboard which I never used, and enabled MBraille as a third-party keyboard. It works well. Now, when I am in a text field, I can tap the next keyboard button, and although the transition to MBraille is occasionally a bit flakey, more often than not, it goes right into MBraille. I write my text, am enable to correct any errors or do any word processing I wish to do with MBraille. Then, I Place my fingers onto the keyboard as if I were going to write dots 4-5-6, and do a three-finger swipe right (being in landscape mode, I mean a three-finger swipe toward the home button.) It then inserts my text into the text field, and I am back in the regular keyboard. No more copying and pasting.

Yes, I do use both the MBraille and the Apple supplied on-board keyboard. I love MBraille a lot, in fact most days. I think it is more accurate than the Apple on-board keyboard. Maybe, though, that is a user perspective and the errors could be mine!

I am not too keen on using it as an extra keyboard, because it's a bit tricky to use it in this way, because of the other keyboards that are already installed. I wish it could be on the rotor! Anyway, I quite often use the old method too, so I can open the app and then cut and paste accordingly, because in some ways it is easier and I like it better! What I do like is to have proper key clicks when typing. I'm afraid this is one of the disappointments of the Braille app by Apple which you can include on the rotor. By the way, I use the "away mode" " because it's the only thing that really works for me. I can't imagine becoming proficient
with anything other than this.

If you have any further questions, do come back. I hope this is helpful! Carol P

o, landscape, away mode, orientation locked. six dot. On both iPad and IPhone. I tried to find an alternative to that input for the Kindle Fire I got for Christmas and haven’t had anything come close to IOS’s braille input. I love it and it’s an invaluable
tool for me on a daily basis, that’s for sure.

Out of curiosity, how many use VO Braille screen input, and in which mode/orientation (screen away or table top)?
