The new thermostat from iDevices is compatible with HomeKit and Siri for
basic control. Unfortunately even though the same iOS app that is
reported to be fully accessible with their iGrill products is not usable
with VoiceOver when connected to the thermostat. This has been reported
multiple times to iDevices but they appear uninterested and not willing
to address the accessibility issues by using the same conventions
already in place in other parts of their app. Very Disappointing as it
has the potential to really be a great and accessible product. Hopefully
more VoiceOver users will contact iDevices Inc. to encourage them to
resolve the accessibility issues in the app.

Hi Ann,
The Nest thermostat is accessible via the Iphone, but you would at least have
to have sighted assistance with setting it up, and if it displays any error
messages involving the thermostat not being able to attach to wifi or talk to
the Nest mother-ship server, then you can't access this with the Iphone (as the
Iphone gets its information and controls the Nest via the main Nest server, not
directly).
If you live with a sighted person, it's accessible enough for most daily use,
but there are times when you do need sighted assistance.
You can also control the Nest with the Amazon Echo, but only in households with
a single system; there's no way to specify which Nest you mean if you have more
than one.

Chip

Subject: Accessible thermostat?
Our thermostat seems to be biting the dust. Honeywell makes one for
about $100 that sounds accessible via the iPhone. Has anyone had a
good experience with the Honeywell thermostat or with any other that
is accessible?
thanks,
Ann
