I like Digit-Eyes the best. The key is to place the camera against the object, start the scanning, and slowly pull the phone away about 4 to 8 inches. If you aren't on the bar code, you can slowly turn the item about a quarter of a turn and wait, or, start over. There are lots of good tips on their web site for scanning tips.
