It seems like many people have their own "wow" moments, experiences where the app totally blew them away or really came in handy. For me, it was last summer when I was renewing my apartment lease. I had asked for an electronic copy of my lease, and that was probably the only time that I had ever hoped to get an imaged based PDF file. When the lease came, I imported it and recognized it with the KNFB Reader. The recognition was 80 percent correct. The parts that it did not recognize were where someone had handwritten numbers or other information, and then rescanned the lease. The Reader had trouble recognizing handwriting, but I think that's the case for any OCR app or program--handwriting has not yet been recognized by anyone. So now I have an electronic copy of my lease. As a side note, I was amused to find out from reading the lease a section toward the end which said that the complex would make every effort to accommodate people with disabilities, including providing electronic leases. I'm going to keep this in mind for when I renew this year, grin.
Another "wow" moment for me was when I went to CSUN last year. The hotel had put a paper flyer under my door. I was able to use the KNFB Reader to read the flyer. The information on the flyer did not apply to me, but it was still pretty awesome to have access to such information, verses wondering, "What does this paper say?"
