It does in fact work. I also have a 5S and it works easily if you do the three

The one slightly irritated comment I will make is that just because you can't
do it, doesn't mean it won't work.

hi,
not to be argumentative, but this does not work. you click more info,
click the number, and there's no block option. swiping up makes no
changes, either. in addition, if iMessage the sender will know when they
are blocked, simply by not seeing the delebered on their screen. true
enough, it could also mean that their device is off, but doesn't take
much to figure out after a while.

Hi again,
Well, it is amazing what happens when one reads the user manual.
I just went to the Apple accessibility page and opened the iPhone HTML
manual, and looked at apps, messages, and found the below information.
It really works but remember not to just flick right, but to swipe up
with three fingers to show the block caller option. Read on:
Messages

If you're in Messages, open the conversation, tap info, then tap the
name or phone number. Scroll to the bottom of the Info screen, then tap
yBlock this Caller.

When you block a phone number or contact, they can still leave a
voicemail, but you won't get a notification. Messages won't be
delivered. Also, the contact won't get a notification that the call or
message was blocked.

That's what I mean. In IOS9, you did details, more info, block this
contact. In 10, though, that is gone for good. So it's not a user
error. Well, thanks for looking into it, it just confirms what we have
suspected. As always, very useful to keep in mind.

I know do not disturb means that in the phone settings. We'll see
what Apple Accessibility has tsay since there is nothing else even
close that I can find.
I got that from some directions on the web on how to block text
messages from someone not in your contacts.
O well.

Hello,
No. Do not disturb just mutes vibrations and ring tones, but if I go
messages, I can read their messages. Further to that, they will be
able to see that I have read their messages, particularly if the
feature is enabled in settings messages.

I just wrote Apple accessibility to double check, but I think it is
basically the same steps only with different labels.

Open the text message you want to block.

Double tap on the "more info" button in the upper right.

Then find the "do not disturb" button and toggle it to on.

I think do not disturb is the same as block, but time will tell.

Hello,

And how do I do it in iMessage, please? Facetime, fair enough, you
can use the same method. I mainly want to block and unblock contacts
in iMessage, that think it's a good idea to annoy me badly enough to
block them. I don't use contacts, so this individual happened to
also not be in the contacts. But with the phone, I have just found no
ways.

I'm not sure my explanation went through.

You do not have to add to contacts first.

In the phone app, double tap on recents, find the call you want to
block, flick up with one finger more information or flick right to
more information then double tap.

Touch in the bottom left corner on favorites, do not double tap, just
touch to get focus there, then flick left with one finger and you are
on the block contact button. Double tap and confirm and it is blocked.

You know, since upgrading to IOS 10, I haven't been able to find that
either. In 9, I used to be able to find and select the number and
flick down with one finger to find the block caller action on which
to double tap. Since 10, I can't find that selection anywhere. We
shouldn't have to go all the way into contacts to do this when we
have not made the call a saved cotact

, and I don't plan to save to contacts just to be able to block the
caller. I am receiving calls from solicitors and don't want their calls.
