The tripple press of the home key is a toggle for voice over. So if it's
off doing that will turn it on and the same for turning it back on. I
didn't think about the two three finger tap for muting and unmuting
speech. So you can try that in conjunction with the tripple tap of the
home button to see if you can get it to talk again. Do you know if you
enabled the shortcut to turn voice over on and off with the tripple
click of the home button? If you did not, there's a chance that voice
over is off and will need sighted assistance to get it back on.

Well, first, I moved my finger on the screen, no sound...then I hit
the volume up and moved my finger around...no sound.
Then I tried the home key 3 times...no words, but some clicks and
clacks as I moved my finger aroung. I called for Siri but no luck. I
hit home 3 times again giving me more clicks and clacks as I moved my
finger. After getting that kind of noise, I waited several seconds
and then moved my finger around more and this time there were no
clicks and clacks. I am very concerned about what I might have done.
Btw, thanks for your ideas.

Check your volume by moving your finger around on the screen and
turning it up on the side using the buttons. I say move around on the
screen because that would make VO talk and you'll be controlling the
media volume instead of the ringer volume. Nine times out of ten this
is what happens when you're not hearing speech. Siri volume is
independent but it could be down as well. If this doesn't work you
can use the triple press of the home button to see if it turns VO on.
Be sure to press it three more times if VO doesn't come on in case
it's already on.

Hi All,
I don't know what I've done, but Siri and VO will no longer talk to me.
I wasn't sure if it was turned on, so I flipped the silent switch on
the side and it vibrated when I did that. I tried, swiping,
tapping, etc, but no response. I called the phone from my land line
and it rangt like normal, but it also vibrated. I double tapped and
it 'answered' the call. No talking of any kind occurred..it did not
tell me who was calling.
Does anyone have any idea what I have done to silence the voices?
Help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nancy and the silent SE
