Right, so putting the phone into recovery mode is your best bet. The way
I've always done this is to connect the phone to a PC, then hold the home
and power buttons down for about 10 seconds. Let go of the power button, and
keep the home button held down until you hear the PC make its sound to
indicate a device has been connected. You should then be able to do a
restore, and I would think that restore will now be iOS 6.

Bob, thanks, but the problem is my phone is completely dead to me. Again, I
have not had someone view the screen yet, but nothing I have done has
elicited any sound. I get warmth when plugged into the wall outlet, but
nothing when connected to the PC and ITunes.

Thanks!

E

I had a similar problem as described earlier. I wiped my phone clean and
restored my back-up which I made before startting the install. Order was
restored with the bonus of having IOS 6 installed. Try that and see what
happens.
