OK, as they say, the plot thickens here.

Firstly, I have Speak Notifications on the Lock Screen set to on, I have just
checked twice.

Secondly, my DND function works just fine, and Voice Over is not announcing
anything to me when it is enabled.

This perhaps could be one of those odd Voice Over Quirks like, for example,
when the screen curtain does, or does not, come back on when you power cycle
your device. For ages I had the screen curtain enabled, and whether I power
cycled or simply triple pressed the home key to turn Voice Over off and then on
again, the screen curtain would come right back on again.

All of a sudden, about 4 weeks ago, this stopped again, and if the phone was
power cycled or Voice Over turned off, the screen curtain would not
automatically resume its state.

I think with regards to DND it is very important that users understand there
are effectively two sets of options for this, two on / off switches if you will.

Ignoring any setting in Notifications, you can on the fly turn DND on and then
off again straight from the primary Settings window.

You can also have DND set to come on and off automatically based on a schedule.

What is important here is that you do not need to turn it on in the primary
Settings window if you are using the schedule.

So I have my DND set to come on at 22:00 and off at 07:00, I do not, in this
setup, need to also enable or disable the DND switch in the primary Settings
window. NOTE even if the primary control states off, DND maybe on, based on the
schedule you have set. Best practice is to check the status bar, just to the
left of the clock you will find Voice Over will announce a Moon symbol, this is
the DND icon. This icon comes and goes dependent on DND status.

With my DND switch in the primary Settings window set to off, at 22:00 hours
the moon symbol appeared bang on queue and went at 07:00.

Next, with DND, the default is to be notified by only folk in your favourites
list, you can change this to everyone, although quite why you'd wish to do
that, or no-one.

One thing that does intrigue me, is the option below this for Groups, There is
one group in there for me, All, yet, I have never realised, and indeed found
the options for, creating a group in iOS Contacts. Can anyone tell me, is this
possible?

Whilst I use the Favourites feature of the phone app, I would prefer a group of
family members so that I could add those to the DND function. These folk though
do not need to be in my favourite call list.

I hope that all this makes sense to those wishing to use DND.

Best wishes.
