Sounds like what I would call a fork lift.
Many years ago, there was a British comedy duo, Flanders and Swan. I have no
doubt that many of you
will remember them with some fondness, for, unlike some other * comedians,
they, really, were funny;
well, to be, absolutely, correct, it was Michael Flanders who was the comedian,
while Donald Swan
tinkled along on the old joanna.
In one of their skits, Flanders who used a wheelchair was saying that when he
boarded a plane, he
and the chair were loaded onto the forklift that was used to lift goods into
the aircraft and he
couldn't understand why it needed such a huge machine for this purpose given
that the forks provided
with one's * tasty cardboard meal were made of plastic.

A scissor lift is a piece of heavy ride on equipment that is used in warehouses
or stores that lifts
a person to a shelf that a tall ladder wouldn't be able to reach or it is used
to change light bulbs
in places that a ladder can't reach. The platform in which the person stands on
fans out like a pair
of scissors when opened.
