Yes, I don't think the majority of the sighted world would like it in fact and in any case it's so easy for a sighted person to press the speaker button if they have to that it wouldn't make much sense.

The person who said she hates it and wish she could turn it off can now do so following Mike's instructions, the ability to turn it off was introduced in iOS 10. The only other thing I would add here and that's quite important is that if Ed's friend is sighted they won't be able to enable this, the automatic switching from earpiece to speakerphone is only available if Voiceover is running.
