No problem with unpredictable. I said the problem was with the apostrophe: particularly before a word, the way JAWS' Eloquence chooses not to ignore 'quote' - whatever level you set the customize punctuation to. (This Eloquence is the most recalcitrant synth with that ' character.)

Flor! Perhaps you could fiddle aroung in your Jaws dictionary to improve Jaws handling of some words. He: Rocky or Reed, I can't remember which one I use said unpredictable perfectly. He does, with some justification, have difficulty with pronouncing many Maori words, but trying out a few imaginative spellings and adding them to the Jaws dictionary can help a great deal. I wrote a piece for some of my other lists that contained the Maori name Kupe, and Jaws, quite naturally, pronounced it Kupe, but when I went to the dictionary and in the spot for "actual word" wrote in Kupe, and then in "replacement word" Koopay, he had it perfectly, or as perfectly as we pakehas [par keh hars] choose to make it. The e is actually pronounced as you would the e in
step.
Now here is an oddity. When I wrote pakehas into fonetics, he had the entral e, just about right, but when I tried writing the e of Kupe as e h, he swallowed it, so Koopay it will stay as far as the
dictionary is concerned.

Eloquence was formed in a time before live human voices in wave form were
recorded by computers and then analysed and so their speech was spliced up,
etc., and made to apply to different contexts. So Eloquence isn't really a
synthesized human voice, in the way that others (such as the aforebemoaned
Alex are said to be). I thought I was liking Vocaliser Expressive voices (as
they work with JAWS) but became disenchanted with eac one I tried after a
few week or few months' use. (Wrong intonations, off pronunciations, etc.) I
like James enough, though. (He also has a bit too much misplaced intonation
at times!) But if I want a relaxing read of something long, then James will
do. With JAWS, I went back to Eloquence, which I'm using. Its faults (and it
has some bad ones, such as saying 'apostrophe' are predictable.

My iPhone voice is female and Irish (Moira). JAWS does something to her
voice on the PC so that it doesn't sound as 'pleasant' as on the iPhone.
(Many fellow irish dislike her, preferring instead the UK Daniel voice. -
Me, no.
