I personally find Ulysses worth the subscription. It'll be even more the case once they deal with a touch of cluggishness navigating with VoiceOver. That's on the agenda. One alternative you may want to check out is Bear. I don't believe it's a subscription model app. There's also Scrivener. Pages from Apple is their free word processor. I didn't like it but others may find it suits them. You might also want to try Microsoft Word which is free on iOS. Hope that helps.
