Hi all. I tend to agree that listening through the app on my phone is better and more reliable. However, I have had some success asking Alexa to ask Anypod to play a named podcast. The trouble with Alexa is having to remember the name of the skill as well as the name of the podcast. I hope that the Echo gets smarter by eliminating skill names as I like the rest of what it does. I use it to play my audible books and it works great.
