Lisa, I would say that the issue with Bard is definitely not standard behavior with an upgrade and I did not have this with either my ITouch or IPhone. I am constantly surprised when people have such diverse experiences when upgrading the same model of phones. But this might have been because you were skipping IOS 11 whereas I was not.

Well, I haven't had that much trouble, to be honest. Most of my
settings were intact with one huge exception that I'll talk about below.

The only issue I had was with the BARD app. I couldn't navigate from
tab to tab at all. I closed the app, restarted the phone, and had the
same problem. My next step would have been uninstalling and then
downloading it again. But I checked the main settings screen and found
the BARD Mobile app and found an option to initialize settings within
that subsection.

This meant that when I reopened the app, I had to agree to the BARD
terms of service and reenter my user name and password. Once this was
done, my bookshelf, wish list and previous downloads were restored,
though I did have to readjust settings for using cellular data from
within the BARD Mobile app. Oh, and the option to hear progress beeps
was on when I had it set to off before the update.

For all I know this could be standard behavior, but I don't remember
having to do it when I was using BARD with my iPhone 5, but who knows. I
tend to block out stressful technical things to keep my sanity. <grin>

The battery seems to be draining faster than usual. I'm assuming this
is part of the update as indicated in the article someone mentioned on
this list the other day.

Also, I have downloaded the SIRI female voice to use with VO. It works
great, but I can't adjust anything as far as volume, speaking rate or
pitch is concerned. I've got speaking rate and volume on my rotor, and
they do absolutely nothing for the female SIRI voice. I have UK and
Australian voices in my rotor, as well as the male SIRI U.S. voice and
they all can be adjusted.

None of these are showstoppers for me. I'm sure I'll run across minor
things. So far every app I've opened that is part of the native iOS
package gives me welcome screens and little summaries about new
features. But all works as it should once I've gotten past those screens.

What Replacement did you Locate for the iOS MobileApp, EyeNote?

Robin, most of the apps I had that weren't compatible with iOS 11 would pop up a message saying the developer needed to update the app before it would work with iOS 11. This was a pop up dialog that appeared when the app was opened and could be gotten rid of with a double tap of the Okay button. Once that dialog was gone, the app functioned normally.

Just off the top of my head, the apps I no longer have access to are Eyenote, Color ID, Agogo, Sixth Sense and Where's ducky. When I tried opening these apps after the update I got the same message I'd get before the update, only now the app doesn't open when the message disappears, I just land back on the home screen.

I will miss Sixth Sense, but I've found better if not superior replacements for the other apps.

Hi, all.

Well, I took the plunge and updated my SE from iOS 10X to 12.

Holy cow I'm just blown away. I used to use iTunes or Over the air updates for my iPhone five and it took forever. . . an hour at least some times. Going that long without speech made me nervous, so I started using iTunes because it gave me a progress in percentages every few minutes. It still took forever.

But today's update went off without a hitch and took about eight minutes. The last time I heard VO announce the time it said 2:26 which was the same thing my PC clock said. I had the phone sitting here next to me while I did Emails on the PC. Every couple of minutes I'd use a light probe to see if the screen was still lit, which it was. Suddenly I heard the little chirpy noise that indicates VO has done something. . . Opened or left a menu. The PC clock said 2:34 and so did the phone.

I haven't had any problems getting everything reconfigured. I haven't played around with some of the new changes, but so far I really like the female SIRI voice. She sounds so natural.

So for anyone with an SE that's a few iOS versions behind, you should probably be Okay.

Hi, all.

I am using windows 10 with the latest version of NVDA.šÂ I currently have an iPhone SE that is still running iOS 10.3. I haven't updated it because in the past year I've had to update to a new PC with Windows 10, and I used my phone as my primary technology for several months before that, so was afraid to do an over the air update to iOS 11. Now, though,, I want to move up to iOS 12 if possible.

My concern has to do with whether or not to use iTunes or over the air to do the update from two iOS versions behind.ÂàYes, all should go well, but I don't want to wind up with a nice rose gold SE brick phone. <grin>.
>>>>

I used iTunes on my old XP system to update my iPhone 5, and when they updated to a new machine, they copied everything over to the new hard drive. I have the old iTunes libraary, but not the iTunes program itself, at least I don't find it doing a search.

I have been following the discussion about iTunes accessibility, so I downloaded iTunes for Business in the hope it would be easier than previous versions of iTunes I've tried.

Now I'm unsure if I should just install the business version or if I need to do something with the residual iTunes that was copied from the older system.

I'm also unsure if I just connect the phone to the new PC and the newly installed iTunes will take it from there. II don't remember how I dealt with this when I first got the iPhone and installed iTunes several years ago.

Generally I put up with the inaccessable aspects of using iTunes because I could get a running progress bar regarding update status, but now I'm thinking I might deal with an hour or so of uncertainty and do the over air update. We don't have aan Apple store here, just a Verizon store where I had the phone set up originally, and I don't have a pair of working eyeballs around to handle reading a phone screen..

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
