I have a 6S Plus and plan to keep it for at least this coming year, it would be
the fourth year, maybe I'll even keep it for a fifth year, all depends on what
Apple comes up with next fall and what else I want to spend money on. Of course
if I win in the lotterie I'll buy an iPhone XS the next day just because, but
it's rather unlikely although somebody did just win a million bucks in my
little town of just over 5,000 people.

Yep. Dependence on technology that only works some of the time can be a real
headache. Oh, and Face ID can’t contend with a totally blind person the right
way (it’s that stupid attention filter). Still, having a passcode is still the
old fallback.
Btw, I run an iPhone 7S here. I don’t have the funds to upgrade any further and
if the phone ceases to be of use, I will end up buying a tracphone at the local
Walmart for about $50. Then I can port over my number and call it good.
Sure, the iPhone has a lot of neat features, a very secure (mostly) App Store
and all of that, but it’s way too pricey to continue upgrading.

Fingerprint scanners of course have been around on various laptops, electronic
doors and so on for a lot longer, but it's also interesting that until Apple
came out with Touch Id they never worked very reliably. I remember I once
bought a fingerprint deadbolt for my front door and man was I sometimes cursing
when I was standing there in the cold trying to unlock my door only to finally
dig out the good old key and of course fingerprint doorlocks have all but
disappeared.
Yes, Touch Id on the iPhone especially the second generation Touch Id on the
6S and up (5S and iPhone SE have first generation Touch Id) works well if it
does work, but as I said in my other message, it only works well if your little
fingers don't see a lot of manual labour.

This is one of the main reasons I went with the 8 instead of the newer
phones. I was almost sold on the stereo recording, but we know how
that went. So I'll be able to hang on to my finger print iPhone 8 for
a couple of years. By then maybe they will have advanced face ID since
they are forcing face ID on us.

confident in Face ID on the new phone that he decided not to purchase
a remote control for the garage door system.
He was so angry at Face ID and the phone that he could not let it go.

He sent me a text, today, telling me that he purchased a remote
control for the opener.
Just another great Face ID failure story, I can't get enough of them,
(Big Smile).
