Hi Lisa,

First of all, your old SIM Card will not work. The iPhone 5 uses a so-called
Nano SIM which is even tinier than the Micro SIM that the 4 and 4S used
which in turn is much smaller than a regular SIM. I am not sure who your
provider is, but if you had a plan with them before and now signed up for a
new contract for an iPhone 5 one should think they would provide you with a
Nano SIM along with your phone, but you have to verify this. If that is the
case the SIM maybe installed and it may not be installed and I would guess
that once you have it in the phone and activate the phone that maybe your
old cell number will work on the new phone. But as I said, I am guessing
here because I have no idea if you are with the same provider as before and
all that. By the way, putting in the SIM may not be the easiest. The iPhone
comes with a little tool, basically just a piece of stiff wire bent into a
certain shape. You have to find a tiny hole on the ride side of the iPhone,
poke the thingi in the hole and that will release the SIM tray. Now, the
Nano SIM is positively tiny since the Micro SIM is already small and I am
not sure how easy it is to know how to put this into the SIM tray.

Anyhow, once the SIM is in then yes, you turn on the phone, wait for at
least 30 or 40 seconds to make sure it is booted and then press home key 3
times to start Voiceover. And no, the iPhone does not vibrate during startup
unless you have it plugged in, then it should vibrate and if so that will be
just before it is ready to go, so after the vibrate wait maybe another 5 or
10 seconds.

Regards,

Sieghard
