My first Sprint 4S came with the micro sim installed, but had to get a warranty replacement because of the volume control, and that one didn't have a sim in. If you start up even CDMA IPhones with no sim, it will nag about it. I had the old one just about packed up to send back when I discovered I needed the sim, if nothing else in Sprint's case, to suppress the error.
