Just had a very frustrating experience with my IPhone 7. I upgraded to IOS 12 last Thursday or Friday, then was working fairly good Friday and Saturday. Sunday I started having some issues with swiping through the screen, and it feeling like the phone was freezing a bit. I decided to do the Network Reset, which did not fix anything. I then decided, Tuesday night, to do the All Setting Reset. Again this did not help anything. By this point the swiping issue had changed into the phone not recognizing gestures and things like a single finger tap might start music playback, might turn off speech, or might do nothing at all. Some times you didn't even have to touch the screen for it to sense something and trigger a gesture. I decided to go all-the-way at this point, doing a full settings and data reset. My wife came home as I was going through this process and had a look at my screne for the first time. She told me there were vertical gray lines going through the screne, and, even with voiceover off, she was having the same problems, and told me the phone was not acting right. We couldn't even get it to take a passcode or much of anything at this point.
Yesterday I took the phone into the Apple Store and found out the screne was defective. I asked how that might have happened, since it worked fine on IOS 11, and just had troubles after upgrading to IOS 12. The tech said that sometimes the upgrade can cause defects, that were not problematic in the older version, to become a problem in the newer. There was no damage to the screne at all, and I had AppleCare, so it did not cost me anything to replace the defective screne, so it all worked out in the end.
