Believe it or not, I noticed the same behavior after updating to iOS 12 and it drove me crazy until I discovered the solution, (smile).
While this was done, automatically in iOS 11, in iOS 12, from the Settings menu, select sounds and haptics. Next, Make certain that Vibrate on Silent is set to on. Next, select the New Mail item by single-finger Double-tapping. Now, at the very top of the display, select the Vibration pattern. The default is set to off. This is why there is no vibration. Simply set it to Quick, and all will be as it was in iOS 11. (smile). No Gmail doesn’t really support push. You can set it to automatically but either way you have to open the mail app to get the right email count so I have outlook for iOS notifying me of new mail.
