I also use Pop on my computer and don’t see why it should be avoided if it is my preference. My question is, if I put the same account on the IPhone using IMap, when I delete the email on the phone, will it delete it from the server? I will use my pop account to download what I wish to keep so I don’t want to have a bunch of emails left on the server.

I have a single gmail account which I have set to handle both POP and IMAP. I use POP on my computer with Outlook 2010 because I got used to POP and downloading my email to my computer back when I first started using email many years ago. I have my iPhone set to IMAP. In my online gmail settings, I have the POP forwarding setting set to retain all email on the gmail servers in the All Mail folder after messages are downloaded to the computer. So I am successfully using IMAP on one device and POP on another device. I investigated the procedure to convert my computer email to IMAP many years ago and decided the process wasn't worth the effort and could cost me all the emails I had previously downloaded into Outlook folders while using POP. I don’t know your email provider, but most nowadays support IMAP and if you set up your email account on your iPhone as well as your computer using the IMAP protocol you will have no more issues such as you describe and in addition you get proper syncing of emails, e.g. if you reply to an email on your iPhone the email will show as replied to on the computer and the corresponding sent message is in your Sent Items folder, if you delete an email on your iPhone it will also be deleted on the computer.
