Hello all you knowledgeable people,

So for work, I've been given an iPhone X. As you know, the only ways
to unlock the phone are through a passcode (which I find obnoxious at
the best of times) or Face ID, which I frankly felt was apple's way of
solving a problem that most people didn't find existed, but that's of
little consequence given that I have to use this phone now. You get
what you get and you don't get upset and all that sort of thing.

That said, I struggled tremendously to even set up face ID. I did my
best to follow the verbal instructions, but somehow never managed to
tilt my head just so or follow the arrow that was supposed to tell me
what to do. I ended up selecting an "accessibility" button that seemed
to mean that it didn't need to get my face from as many angles as it
might have from a sighted person, but then I also find that I need to
be holding my phone just so in order for it to recognize my face. For
example, I know I can't be the only person who sleeps with her phone
next to the pillow at night. Upon waking up, before even acknowledging
my consciousness, my hand is drifting up to my phone to either check
the time or to check e-mail or get my next digital dopamine hit, and
my phone is certainly not up above my face. How are those you using
face ID managing this? do you just sit up all alert and bright-eyed
before using your phone? can face ID be anything other than
irritating? Is it possible to have your phone next to your pillow,
turn your face towards it, and have it unlock? I even thought of
getting a sighted person to help me set it up in the detailed way it
wants, but is that even possible? will it not then just start scanning
the sighted person's face? oh my.

Thanks in advance, and I am missing the fingerprint option so much, if
you couldn't tell.
