Dennis,
I did not find a setting in Outlook for iOS where you indicate whether your account is using the POP3 or IMAP protocol. The help included with the app does state that POP3 is supported. I'm not sure this is an issue for installing and using the app. As I recall, when I first added my gmail account to my iPhone many years ago, I was prompted by iOS at that time what protocol I was setting up and I chose IMAP for my iPhone. I will add that I use POP3 on my desktop computer running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. When I installed Outlook for iOS a couple of days ago, I was prompted for which email account on my iPhone to use with it. I indicated my sole gmail account and I was not asked anything about POP3, IMAP or anything to do with email protocols. I did have to provide my Google accounts password which controls access to gmail. I assume your question about telling it to only manually check has to do with how often mail is refreshed or downloaded. I believe this is an iOS setting which can be found in Settings, Passwords and accounts, and Fetch new data. I have this setting set to Push but it can be changed here to manual. The Outlook for iOS app does not have a setting within it that affects this. You do not have to have an Office 365 account to use Outlook for iOS. I use Microsoft Office 2010 including Outlook 2010 on my Windows 7 computer. You do have to have a Microsoft account which I have had for years when they used to call it Microsoft Passport. You can get a Microsoft account here: https://account.microsoft.com/account?lang=en-us I've not received any of those this message is only partially downloaded messages when using the app but my settings are probably much different than yours so I'm not sure that helps. Now that I've used the app a couple of days, I'll be posting something later this afternoon summarizing my experience and commenting on its use. I think you are going to just have to download and try it. Other than the time you invest in doing so, there really is no cost to this as it shouldn't affect whatever you're currently doing on your iPhone for email. Good luck. Can you tell it to only manually check? Do you need a 365 account? Does it give you the message this message is only partially downloaded like I get when reading mail from a mailing list like this one? -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
