I often go for the newest phones and last year I got an 11 Pro. I absolutely
think it is the best IPhone I have used. I am somewhat disappointed in the
new phones and see nothing that temps me to plunk down the amount they have
put on these and especially when not including the headsets or the charging
items. Not that the silly charging block they have continued to use is a big
loss but the headsets are in my opinion.
I will be sticking with the SE and the 11 Pro for now.

Probably a wise choice not to pay top Dollar to get the iPhone 12, I think
anybody who has anything from a 10 up is wasting their money. One thing,
however, if I were to consider an upgrade I would certainly look at last
year's iPhone 11 instead of the XR from 2 years ago. My wife and I hadn't
planned to upgrade either this year and keep our iPhone 8 which we got 2
years ago. However, we had 64 Gb models and while I only use about half of
that space, my wife likes to keep lots of photos and videos on her phone and
hers was full. Then our provider here in Canada came out with a pretty good
deal, I could get an iPhone 11 64 Gb for $33/month over 2 years with $0 up
front, that is $792 Canadian which works out to less than $600 US, not a
super deal, but also not too bad so we went for it. Unfortunately they only
offered the 11 with 64 Gb and since my wife likes smaller phones anyways we
went with an iPhone 11 Pro for her with 256 Gb storage which cost the same
$33 a month over 2 years + a downpayment of a few hundred Bucks, can't
remember exactly how much, but again in the end a few hundred cheaper than
if we had bought one outright. It seems that there is only a $100 or so
difference between the XR and 11 and for that I think the 11 is a better
choice, if you do want to sell it or trade it in in 2 or 3 years you
probably make that extra $100 back in resale value.

Well, Verizon will not take advantage of us. My wife and I will be getting
iPhone 10R models. I know I can learn to use Face ID, and now is a good time
to learn. I figure it will be a long time before we see 5G in our area. If I
am mistaken and it happens within two years or so, we can upgrade if we
wish. In the meantime, with the money we will save, my wife can upgrade her
iPad if she wishes to do so. I appreciate all of the discussion on various

I am with you on 5G, Les and Alan. I think it’s a bunch of height,
especially Verizon and their MM wave which is vanishingly difficult to
actually connect to. So they’re ripping you off yet again. It’s interesting
that both they and AT&T are giving a little subsidy on the iPhone. They must
be desperate. I think the SE2 could be very compelling. That’s especially if
you like a home button.

I'm with Richard here. Be aware that all the hoopla about 5G will require
use of cellular data and I suspect that at some point, carriers will be
charging accordingly to recover whatever hardware they've priced low to
get you into their fold. I still intend to primarily use wifi since I'm
using my iPhone at home most of the time and don't intend to increase the
capacity of my cellular plan whether using 4G or 5G.

probably is.
What kind of contract commitments do they want with these amazing
pricings?
If it locks you into a 2 year contract at a given level, I'd make sure I

For those looking to upgrade to the new phones, I found some aggressive
pricing from AT&T and Verizon mentioned in the Apple Store app, like an
$800 credit from AT&T. They really want to get everyone on 5G, and same
from Verizon it looks like. I wasn't planning on getting one, but this may
change my mind. I've never heard of major carriers practically giving away
the new iPhone before.
