Hi Vicki and List,

I'll let Malcolm explain any of the electrical nuances regarding iDevice
chargers but it feels as if a quick overview of the connectors and cables is
appropriate especially since Apple is no longer including charging bricks with
new devices. All Apple portable devices since I believe the iPhone 5 have a
female lightning port for wired charging. Older charging bricks provided by
Apple had type A USB female ports which were the same as USB ports on a
standard computer. Therefore, the cables provided by Apple with older iDevices
had a USB type A male connector at one end for plugging into the charging brick
and a lightning male connector at the other end for plugging into the device.
Fast chargers started being introduced I believe with the iPhone 10. Instead of
having a USB type A female port, these chargers have a USB type C female port.
So, if you are purchasing a cable to charge an iDevice with one of these fast
chargers, it must have a USB C male connector on one end and a male lightning
connector on the other end.

Vicki, I suspect your brick with the two charging ports contains two USB type A
female ports. I have a similar charger made by anker. I don't like making
assumptions when advising someone on what to purchase so you'll have to decide
which charging brick works best for you before cable shopping. I personally
feel having both type of cables I described above is handy. I also think having
a charger or charging brick with both USB type A female and USB type C female
ports is handy. Anker is a great source for all cables and chargers in my
opinion but make sure you always get the MFI (made for iPhone) certified ones.

Amazon has the Anker 6ft Premium Double-Braided Nylon Lightning Cable, Apple
MFi Certified for iPhone Chargers, iPhone X/8/8 Plus/7/7 Plus/6/6 Plus/5s, iPad
Pro Air 2, and More(Black) which is rated 4.7 stars and cost $14.99 available
at this site:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Premium-Lightning-Certified-Chargers/dp/B078NR6ZK3/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=Anker%2Blightning%2Bcable%2B6%2Bfeet&qid=1607960953&s=electronics&sr=1-10&th=1

I'll caution you to be careful when shopping for cables at Amazon because I'm
finding that lately their worded product descriptions aren't always accurate.
I've particularly noticed a tendency to say that a connector is USB type C when
the picture clearly has a USB type A connector on the cable. The sighted world
seems hellbent and getting their pictures right but seem to be playing fast and
loose with their words. I have the above cable and have been very happy with
it. I also have an Anker fast charger with a 6 foot Anker USB C to lightning
cable and have been very happy with those too.

Good luck.

Alan Lemly

Your current charging brick will work fine. It will simply not charge your
device at the fastest possible rate but if that s not important to you then you
ll be fine.
