Ah, if only I had seen this last night.  <grin>  My sister was over last evening and she removed the case.  Everything was bone dry, so she just had to plug it in.  There was a brief notification from the phone saying there was water in the lightening port, so charging wouldn't happen.

I kept the phone in a bag of oatmeal all night and went to the Verizon store this morning.

They looked at the SIM card and tested the charging and all was well.

The Verizon rep also reminded me about the depth and length of time an iPhone could be under water and still survive.  It's nice to know, but I'm not going to be dunking my phone into anything wet any time soon.

Lisa, who's off to find a water proof case that also looks nice. I know, good luck with that.

Your iPhone 12 Pro canm be submerged in 2 metres of water (7 feet) for a half

even worrym. If it happens again wipe it dry and carry on. Worst thing which
could happen is that your glass screen protector may come off. As for the
Lightning port it's fully isolated from the inside, once again just wipe the
phone dry, blow into the Lightning port a few times and maybe let it dry out
for another half hour before you plug it in.

Subject: Help, What to do about a briefly submerged phone

Hi, all.  I'm so ready to kick myself.

I know the newer iPhones are water resistant, but how resistant?

I was in the kitchen cooking and had my phone on the counter so I could use the
speaker phone.  I moved a dish towel and woops, my phone slid off the counter
and into a full sink of soapy water.

This is an iPhone 12 Pro that has a Zag case on it with a tempord glass screen
protector.  The case has TPU bumpers on the edges of the phone and a hard shell
on the back and halfway up the sides of the phone. None of the ports are
protected like the battery charger or speakers.

I scooped the phone out of the water as soon as it happened and was able to
continue my conversation with no sign of the phone malfunctioning. It seems to
be Okay, except the edges of the case where the TPU touches the screen are
damp.  The speakers sound Okay and all of the buttons are working.

Do I put it in a bag of rice or what?  Ironically, I have a day before I need
to return it to Verizon.

How soon can I safely plug the phone into a brick charger or should I
even try??

HTH.  And yes, I feel really dumb.  I'm going to price Otterbox cases
now.  <sigh>
