Sounds like you might have screen recognition turned on for the LA times app.
You should be able to turn it off from the roter, either in the app itself or
when you give the app focus in the App Switcher.

Subject: Problem with the LA Times app on one phone but not the other one

I have been a subscriber to the Los Angeles times for a while now. I use the
app on my phone. However, with my 10 R, the app appears to load but nothing is
showing up on the screen for voiceover. With my older 7+, the app blows as it
should and everything shows up. I'm running the same version of the operating
system on both devices, and I have reinstalled the app on my 10r to no avail. I
don't get it. Has anyone seen this problem with an app? How to fix it?
