As far as the clock instructions are concerned, are you not able to imagine a clock face, e.g. a circle where 12 O'clock is at the top, 6 O'clock is at the bottom, 3 o'clock is on the right side (between 12 and 6) and 9 o'clock is on the left side? You could also use the analogy of a 2-dimensional Globe/representation of the Earth with the cardinal directions North (up) East (to the right), South (down) and West (to the left). All you have to do when you set up Face Id, this is a one-time process, is to hold the phone straight in front of your face, then when prompted look a bit to the right, then down, then left and back up.
