No you don’t need the reader. I had one of these to test for my local hospital, and the reader comes with it, but if you’re taking readings with your phone, you don’t need it.

I received an email stating that this could be done but have not figured out how to do it yet. I’ve used Seeing AI to read the screen with limited success but just tried VD Scanner and it was perfect. I still would like to be able to scan with my phone instead of the reader.
