No, this is some kind of bug that has nothing to do with the phone's misinterpreting taps or the volume being turned down. Before today, I had had it happen maybe 3 times, all of which I was able to correct by turning voiceover on and off with the home button. Once, I had to do it twice. In all the times before today, I had ended the call either with the two-finger double tap or the end call button on the screen. Today, I was wearing my wired earpods, and ended the call with them. When voiceover did its error, no problem, I just restarted it with the home button, but it didn't fix it. Restarting twice didn't fix it, neither did resetting it with the up and down volume and holding in the power button until I heard that little snap sound in the headphones, so that I knew the phone had shut down. Voiceover worked fine when I was typing in my code, it went wrong afterward. Sometime during this whole process, voiceover had started working again, but was very sluggish. After feeling a vibration, it would literally take two or three seconds, but would eventually say something. Out of curiosity, I got it to call an automated service in my favorites. The phone call, but especially voiceover had that over modulated sound as from the days of tape recorders when the gain was too high. But when I ended that call, you guessed it, everything is completely back to normal. This is going to be a really hard bug to trace down, being that I don't know how to make it do it on purpose. The next time it happens, I am going to make another call, even if I have to have siri do it if I have no voiceover at all, and see if disconnecting that call fixes it again.
