Dan, I have used both the second and third generation of the echo dot. I think the third generation has much better sound quality. It also has tactil markers for all controls. I also tried the echo show 2. It has a camera and even better sound quality that the echo dot. A friend who has significant hearing loss got it. It claims to identify product labels, etc. I found it much more difficult to set up than the echo dot. For whatever reason, I had trouble getting it to tell me what various things were. Maybe I did not give it enough time. I returned mine for a total refund. Am pretty sure you would be able to return the echo dot for full refund too.
On a different tone, I like your ham call. You’ll probably have to set it up through the Alexa app on your phone and you’ll need an amazon account to link it to. Once set up, it should be fairly straight forward to use. If it doesn’t work out, You can probably return it to amazon. I still do not need one for myself but my Mom who is 89 this year and is not very tech savvied has lost almost all of her sight and doesn't want to use VO or talkback on her phone. I am thinking of getting one of these because after demoing giving voice commands to my Iphone she is now interested in doing something similar but not to her phone. Her occupational therapist has convinced her that devices like echos and echo dots are more accurate and would work better for her. She says this is based on her experience as an OT. My question is this, which devices seem the most forgiving for less than perfect speech when giving voice commands? We also do not want to spend a ton of money in case this doesn't work out well for her. Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated. -- Dan Beaver (KA4DAN) -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
