Hi Mary,
Yes the qwerty keyboard actually works quite well as an input device.
You're right about setting the u2 to uncontracted braille. As for the
commands, I'm not sure of them all because documentation is poor for
braille input anyway, and even worse for braille qwerty input, but the
keys I've found to work for executing commands are a combination of a
key on the keyboard and the fn key. Not sure if the windows key works
for some commands or not.
Honestly, I haven't played with itt all that much but I have played a
bit with my u2 qwerty and iphone4s under ios6.
Hopefully someone will document this stoff someday. <grin>

Hi Richard,
I had a query in to Hims but asked here at the same time, figuring they might
be out for the holiday. Turns out they must be open, but the response I got was
not entirely clear. You don't use the s d f etc keys to make braille dots as
you do with the Apex qwerty. But with respect to navigation equivalents and
functionality equivalent to the space plus braille dot combinations, the
response was basically vague. It is apparently hit and miss and doesn't make
much sense, but they're working on it. I didn't get any specific examples. The
controls on the display itself apparently work the same. So this is apparently
a real work in progress. Hims also recommends putting the u2 into grade 1 mode
when entering text because of the well known issue with Apple back translating
letters if you pause at the wrong place. That seems really unfortunate with a
qwerty keyboard, where you're not typing braille.
