Wow! The same thing happened to me way back in the 1960s when I was trying to
get a job straight out of college. I was told that I would be a fall risk.
Then, when I visited the unemployment office, someone suggested that I start my
own transcription business, which I did, and I was able to hire a few employees
to help me out. My main field was medical transcription, but I also did
dictation from a couple of factories in the area. I had written to them,
figuring that perhaps I couldn't get work as a medical transcriptionist. Then,
I was able to get work from several other hospitals throughout the state of CT,
and I had to hire people to help me do the non-medical work. My business went
well for several years, and then hospitals started getting their own medical
transcriptionists, so one day, my Dad was reading the paper and he saw that a
local hospital was looking for medical transcriptionists immediately, so
without hesitation, I applied for a job. I had to take a test before I was
hired, and luckily, I was able to work there for 30 years. I retired back in
2004 and I am enjoying my retirement immensely!
