Apple does not give carriers deals. Carriers must accept shipments of iPhones according to the terms of their contract and carriers have to find ways to blow them out of their sales channel. Carriers are eating the discounts to retain customers and gain new business. I converted the currency and checked prices on Swappa for the iPhone 13. You are getting new iPhone 13 Pros for what used 256 GB iPhone 13’s are selling for on Swappa when the total price is calculated after two years if you were to buy the phones outright.
Besides the camera, the other big improvements this year in the 14 were crash detection and satellite communication for emergency rescue. Already it has saved lives, including a man in Alaska who crashed his snowmobile in the middle of the night. He was able to connect to satellites even though he was further north than the supposed upper boundary limit for Global star satellites. The other involved two twenty somethings who drove their car off a ridge near Los Angeles. The car plunged 70 feet before crashing at the bottom of the valley. The crash detection activated and because there was no cell service at the bottom of the valley, the crash data was sent to the Apple emergency communications center who dispatched a rescue team. Some find this feature remarkable and feel the price of the 14 upgrade is worth it. For me, it would be nice but not essential for my digital lifestyle, given I live in a big city with loads of cell coverage for hundreds of miles around.
