I can see where these store sprang up separately for different types of products, and that they're probably managed by different organizations inside Apple. This would make it hard for them to merge in a sense and allow the same gift cards to honored across all stores. I wouldn't say it couldn't happen though. If it makes it easier for Apple to separate us from your money, I can see where they would be motivated to overcome these logistics. It's only software after all!
