Determination of distance is its primary function, the LiDAR sensor emits a laser beam which is reflected by whatever it hits and the phoen then calculates how far away the object is based on how long it took for the beam to reach the object and reflect back.

HI LIDAR is built-in to the pro models since the 12 pro. The letters stand for light detection and ranging. Some apps are using it for object and people detection. It helps with photographs. The iPhone Magnifier app can use it to detect people, doors, and text. Seeing AI uses it in the World Channel on phones that have it for detection of some things. There is, or was, a free app called Super LIDAR that I have not tried for a couple of years, so maybe it has been updated to do more. I’m one who only upgrades my phone when I can’t do things I want to do. For this reason last March my wife and I turned in our iPhone 6S phones for iPhone 15S. Over recent months I have used access apps like Seeing AI BeMyAI etc. I have heard that accessibility apps for the blind will be greatly enhanced or only work if the phone has Lidar. I know that’s probably not the correct spelling. Anyway, when I got my 15S last March I thought the guy at the AT&T store told me it had Lidar. I have since discovered that it doesn’t. My question is what will Lidar do for me that I can’t do without it? I am seriously thinking of upgrading to a 16 Pro in a few months if Lidar is really that important. Can someone give me a description of what I would get if I had Lidar? Thanks.
