In newer iPhones you can go into the Battery settings area and select an option to only charge to 80%, this is supposed to be the best for charging life, and then you won’t have to think about unplugging beffore the battery gets to 100%. There was a recent article on Daring Fireball about how effective this approach is. Your best bet for performance is to reduce your battery usage. Set the brightness to 5%, and don’t close out programs that are suspended. Sent from my iPhone
