I have been thinking about your problems outlined in your message, and here is what I have concluded, for what it might be worth. If your radio station starts again, I think you are doing the double tap with your fingers too close together, and oriented wrong. When I do this double tap to start braille screen input, I am holding my phone in away mode, against, in my case, my gut, with the ear piece area to the left and, in my case, the home button to the right. Of course, you have a modern phone, so put the end where the home button   would be to the right.  When I do this double tap, I am doing it along the edge that  would be toward the floor, and I do the double tap with each finger almost in the corners. If I do it with my fingers along this edhe, but too close together, it often starts dictation mode. It seems that my fingers have to be far enough apart along this edge for it to understand what I am wanting it to do, that its not a regular double tap.  To get out of braille screen input, I have had better luck sliding my fingers along that edge toward the corners, but not starting  too near each other when beginning.

Hello,

I too cannot get BSI to start with the simultaneous double taps on the corners or center of a landscape.  I’m using Iphone 14.

The problem might be that when I do a double tap a radio starts. Ever since I asked SIRI to play a radio station, it can be started and stopped with the double tap.

On the lock screen there are buttons for the play/pause and track buttons. Maybe this is for playing music (something I haven't tried yet).

How do I stop this playing of a radio with the double tap?

Then maybe I can get BSI to start.

As far as calibrating I don’t know what is typing or command mode.

After placing the left then right fingers on the screen, I have never heard:

If done correctly, you will hear, dot positions callibrated.

To turn on Braille Screen Input, you basically need to double tap a left hand corner and a right hand corner while in landscape mode.  These double taps need to be done together at the same time.
It does not matter whether you use both top corners, both bottom corners, or one of each.  I personally put my left hand finger at the top left corner, and my right hand finger at the bottom corner.
If it does not work sometimes for you, maybe you are not always putting your fingers far enough in the corners.

As far as callibrating the dots.
You first put your right hand down, lift it and quickly put your left hand down and lift it.
You can do this while in typing mode or command mode.
If done correctly, you will hear, dot positions callibrated.  You can callibrate the dots as much as you need.
I found that I was putting my hands to far to the top and that made my typing not as accurate.  So I just lowered my hands a little toward the bottom of the screen and my typing got accurate again.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I have the basics to get BSI started and stopped but it’s hit and miss. Can you clarify the correct gestures to start and configure the fingers.

**Start

Using the roter is hit and miss and sometimes it’s is changed to unselected.

The other way to engage BSI is with finger taps.

How exactly should the 1 finger double tap be done?

Should the Iphone be in portrait and facing me?

Should the taps be in the center or the diagonally opposite corners of the screen?

Should this tap be simultaneous or one after the other?

***Configuring the 6 fingers

When BSI starts, the Iphone is in landscape and screen away.

The Iphone back corners are braced with my  thumbs and pinkies and part of the palms.

The right and left 3 center fingers are curled so that the tips will tap the right and left edges.

Should the 3 fingers touch each other or be apart?

I start with the right fingers for dots 4, 5 and 6.

Should they be tapped simultaneously or one after the other?

Should they be held down or lifted before repeating fingers for 1, 2 and 3?

With screen away I can lock the layout with a 3 finger swipe down.

I’m trying different methods and getting mixed results.

Writing the alphabet from “a” gets me to “g” most of the time.

I don’t hear any letters using dot 3  like k, l, m, etc.

What is the correct gesture for starting and configuring?

Hello Gezim,
I am replying using Braille Screen Input. It  working like always for me.
I engage it by double tapping with one finger at the top and one at the bottom of the screen.
Also on 18.1 but on the 16 pro, but that shouldn't matter.

Hi all,

Yesterday I updated my iPhone to iOS 18.1, and I noticed that Braille screen input is no longer functioning.

I am using iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Gezim
