To me it seems like a software issue. I’d suggest resetting the phone and
setting it up as new instead of from a backup.

I’d think that if you do this the problem should abate.

Richard,

This volume issue is and has been happening all the time since I bought it in
December of 2024.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to pin point this, meaning if I am in a
certain app, or a certain News App, but I can’t seem to find this happening
with any one or two specific app or time.

It happens all the time no matter what I am reading or even swiping on the
screen, or what app I have opened.

Then, after the volume goes down so low I can’t hear it, so I have to use the
up volume button, and that also causes the volume to go up to loud.

This just isn’t right, and I am not willing to accept this.

I’ve tried for several months, but to no avail.

Kindly,

Janet.

First of all, if an Apple rep is using an Android, and tells an Apple customer
that, they probably will not be an Apple rep very long. That is just dumb.

Second, how often is this volume issue happening?

Perhaps you could get a recording of it.

I too think something is wrong with your phone, but it would take having it
diagnosed at an Apple store in order to figure it out.

I suspect you do not have one near you, so that will probably not happen.

No you’re not confusing things here, but this is how my phone is currently
working.

I do believe something is wrong, but I just don’t know what, and neither did
the Apple rep.

I am going to call Apple tomorrow, and see if I get another rep, to see what he
or she will say.

Although, I am very serious when I say I don’t like this phone, and this is the
only Apple phone I can honestly say I didn’t like.

I just might try and reset the whole phone just to see if that might correct
this issue, because this just isn’t right, and Apple should not consider this
an expected behavior.

So if Apple considers this an expected behavior, I don’t have to accept this,
especially when I paid $1,100.00

Who in their right mind would want a phone like this?

If this volume issue can’t be corrected, I have all plans on getting rid of
this.

I have the 16 pro and I can turn on or off show in status bar and the silent
mode stays on if it was on, or off if it was off. IN other words, changing the
show in status line has no effect on the silent mode setting.

I'm running iOS 18.5.

It could be another setting like Focus is interacting with this setting, I
honestly don't know.

Sorry if I am confusing things, just reporting how it behaves for me.

The silent mode on/off is completely separate from the show in status bar.

I just played around with it and turning off show in status bar had no effect
on the silent mode.

If you turn silent mode on, it says just next to that setting: "iPhone will
not play ringtones, alerts, and system sounds. iPhone will still play alarms,
timers, music, and audio from videos."

You can adjust the ringer volume by smaller amounts by doing a double tap and
hold, then slide your finger very slowly. It is tedious at best.

Hello Everyone,

For those who might be interested in knowing about the Volume issue and the
Silent Mode I was having, I just got off the phone with an Apple rep.

The rep told me the reason why my volume goes high and then goes low, is what
Apple considers to be expected behavior, and for those who are having this same
volume issue, instead of having the volume in settings set to 100 percent, turn
it down to maybe 98 or 95, to see if that will help, but if not, use the up or
down volume buttons to raise or lower the volume sound.

So I tried to turn the volume down to 98 or 95 percent, but on my phone it goes
from 100 percent to 90 percent.

So there doesn’t seem like there is going to be any fix for this one.

I also asked the rep about what the Silent Mode is in the sound and haptics
settings for to show in the status bar just thinking I was accidentally swiping
across the screen that maybe that was raising or lowering the volume.

The rep said if the setting to show in the status bar is turned on it will show
in the status bar on my screen, but that doesn’t show in my status bar on my
screen, rather I have that setting turned on or off.

So, I turned it off, but I noticed when I turned off the Silent Mode not to
show in the status bar, that automatically turned off my phone ringer, as well
as turned off any alerts, so I turned back on the show in status bar, and had
to turn back on my phone ringer.

I’m sorry but, I just don’t see any logic in all this, matter of fact, the
Apple rep said the same thing, but she is using an Android Phone!

Although, when I first talked to her she told me that Apple knows about this
and many people are having the same issue, and that Apple has been and still is
working on this, but then, she read more about what Apple had to say about the
volume, and that is when she told me Apple is saying that is expected behavior.

What a kick in the pants this one is!

Janet.

What sound level do yd you have your sounds set to under settings, Sounds &
Haptics?

Do you have change with buttons off?

I always keep change with buttons off so changing the volume with the buttons
doesn't effect the ringer and alerts volume.

Have you adjusted the volume while Siri is speaking?

Sometimes, I notice after using Siri the overall volume seems louder.

Ask Siri something like what is the forecast for the next 7 days and while it
is answering, adjust the volume to where you want it.

That usually keeps it fairly constant.

Subject: Volume On An iPhone 16 Pro Question Please.

Hello Everyone,

Since I bought my phone 16 Pro in December of 2024, I’ve had this strange issue
with the volume that is driving me nuts.

When I am reading the Apple News or any other news app I have on my phone, or
even if I am in one of my Apple Music Play List, but no matter which app I am
reading this exact same issue comes up.

The problem is the volume gets louder and louder, and keeps getting louder, and
then I have to turn the volume down as I don’t need it or like it that loud,
Then the volume will go lower and lower until I can’t barely hear anything I am
reading on my phone.

Needless to say I can’t stand this issue.

I know I should have called Apple about this before, but I’ve been very busy
doing other things, but this is really getting nerve recking!

So, I just thought I would ask here before I call Apple.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kindly,

Janet.
