Why is it that people resist good advice? Apple has an excellent memory management system in the iPhone. That said, any and all computer system memory eventually becomes fragmented. The more complex the computer, the more the fragmentation. Whilst the iPhone did not have an app switcher, so apps were closed automatically whenever the home button was pressed, memory fragmentation was almost nonexistent.
You actually do not ever need to clear out the app switcher. Instead, simply turn your iPhone off and then on again. This will reset the iPhone's active memory. The symptoms you are experiencing are symptoms of memory fragmentation.
