That is only partially true. I take rather copious notes in the notes app using a bluetooth Braille keyboard, write all my email using both bluetooth Braille and onscreen keyboards, work on multi-page documents in Pages app, and do many other tasks on my iPhone. The key is to occasionally clear out the app switcher and occasionally turn the iPhone off and then on again.
Even my iPhone 4 was robust enough to do all these tasks. Now that I have an iPhone 5, the difference in performance is quite noticeable.
