I use my phone every day, for several hours. I listen to audio books, music, and do lots of email, and such.
I keep the screen curtain on. I lock it when not using it and while listening to audio books or music. A charge usually gets me through an entire day and often a day and a half. I have never let it run down to 0 and yes, that can damage the battery and since it was likely there for more than a year, it could be a damaged battery. The only thing that would damage is the battery itself as far as I know. You could spend less than $100 for a battery and see if that helped, or you could spend $600 for a new phone… Good luck which ever way you choose to go.
