Hi Tom,

The restrictions Apple imposes at times can be a pain, but in many cases
it's that control which makes iOS what it is and that is awesomely
accessible, secure, stabil and all in all a very good user experience.

There is no point in going on about how unfair it is that Apple doesn't
allow a developer like those who have RingTone apps to put the ringtone
straight into the RingTone Library on the phone right from the app. But
complaining about this is useless as I doubt Apple will give full access to
the file system any time soon. It's like Pablo's ongoing complaints about
not being able to downgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 5, Apple doesn't allow that
and if one does their homework before that is not a secret and anybody who
doesn't want to take the risk should not upgrade.

Anyhow, I personally don't find it very difficult to create the ringtone and
either email it or grab it in iTunes with iTunes File Transfer and to save
it into my RingTones folder and then sync. I sync my phone with iTunes from
time to time anyways so really it's just one extra step to get the ringtone
into the RingTones or Automatically Add to Library folder. After all, I
don't care if I have to sync my phone with iTunes to get it onto the phone
or if I have to find the Ringtones folder on my phone and manually copy it
in there, the end result is the same.

And you could always Jailbreak if you want full access to the file system
and use all the wonderful jailbreak apps that are out there, it may result
in your phone being less stabil, but it's for everybody to decide. Of course
if you have upgraded to iOS 6 jailbreaking is not yet an option, at least
not for the normal guy who wants an untethered jailbreak.

Regards,
Sieghard
