It's actually badge, b a d g e. A badge in that context is a piece of
information displayed in a static way. For example, when you go to a folder
on your home screen and it shows the number of apps in that folder, that is
very similar to the way a badge displays information.

frankly I don't find the brief explanations in the SETTINGS dialogs
truthfully all that helpful; especially regarding "batch." I see one list
member was kind enough to explain alerts and banners which truthfully is
reasonably explained in the SETTINGS dialogs, but whatever is meant by
"batch" escapes my meager ability to understand. I certainly know what a
batch in typical English means, but just how does it apply to information
