But BlindSquare provides excellent monitoring (including crossed streets) in addition to POI discovery and allows you to save your own POIs and monitor them. It even has its own speech so can work in the background and while your device is locked. It's the best publically available app that I've encountered thus far in terms of feeling like you are holding a Breeze or a BrailleNote GPS system. The best part is that you can use it in tandem with Navigon or Apple Maps for turn by turn directions (and, in the latter case, map exploration) while still hearing Blindsquare's speech to announce your proximity to the POI along with crossed streets and other info.
