I've been wanting such a thing for the two years I've had an iPhone,
and so far the only thing that comes close, and it's not even really a
true remote control in the sense of transmitting an infrared data
burst, if that's what you're looking for, is the Verizon app suite for
the FiOS set-top box. While it does accessibly practically everything
the FiOS handheld remote does, including programming the DVR, browsing
the EPG, etc., it requires you be on the same Wi-Fi network as the
set-top box you are attempting to control.
