The jump forward feature exists when you use the button-free mode by turning
off VO and doing a single finger swipe upward while listening to a book.

In this screen you can do a left swipe (or flick) to go backward and a right
swipe (or flick) to go forward. Doing a single tap anywhere on the screen will
start / pause the audio and doing a vertical (up or down) flick will set a
bookmark.

To exit this mode, you can turn VO back on and you will find a 'Close' button
in the top left corner of the screen. Double tapping this will bring you back
to the normal play view.

YOu can find out all about this, and more, in the user guide in 'Settings.'

HTH and have a lovely evening / weekend!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi Arnold,

You can actually find out what chapter is playing by double tapping on the time
elapsed counter. Then flick left or right a bit and it will show you the
chapter, but the readout will go away again after a while.

I asked one of my employees to look at the Chapter and Bookmarks page. I was
playing an audio book at the time and she said the currently playing chapter
was highlighted and I am pretty sure the app could be programmed so that
Voiceover would say something like “Selected” or “Currently Playing” before it
reads out the chapter and time. This would be a big improvement in my view and
I’ll definitely write to Audible again tonight to emphasize this.

As far as a Jump Forward button is concerned, it does not exist. I am not sure
why they would talk about it, but it’s definitely not there whether you use
Voiceover or not.

It is a crude work around, but one way you can tell what chapter you are
currently playing is to set a book mark, then select the book marks button in
the chapters and book marks, and go to that book mark. It will tell you what
chapter you are in.

And another feature I wish VoiceOver could access in the new audible app, (I
hope it is simply that I don't know how to access it), is a jump forward
button. I know it exists, for it talks about jump forward and back in the
settings, I just think VoiceOver isn't finding it.

Hi Robin,

Yes, I agree, as far as I am concerned I see absolutely no improvements with
this Audible update except that they added an 8 minute sleep timer.

I really would like them to upgrade their sleep timer so you can set the time
simply as a custom time and also that there is a subtle warning 10 or 20
seconds before the timer runs out and an easy way to reset it if you are stil l
awak and hear the warning. The sleep timer app “iTired” does this beautifully,
but unfortunately you can’t use it with third-party apps, only the native music
app.

Another big thing I would like to see fixed is the fact that there is no
indication in the Chapters and Bookmarks area which chapter is currently
playing. If Voiceover said “Now Playinbg” or “Selected” or whatever when you
come across the chapter that is playing at the time it would make it much
easier to find your chapter and either double tap on the one before or the one
after.

I will write to Audible again with these suggestions and hope as many as
possible join me in this.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,
the good news is there’s an update. the bad news the two glaring accessibility
issues I noted personally in version 2.0 still remain that is unless I’m just
stuck on stupid and am missing something.
In version 2.1 I still can’t get the 2 finger gesture to activate back buttons.
and I still can’t fathom for the life of me why it is that the time elapsed
indicator allows you to change its value by swiping or flicking upward and yet
it returns to its original position when playback of a book resumes.
Here’s hoping in future such functionality will be restored.
Robin
