The other thing is, A lot of restaurant menus are available online.  You can 
just punch it up and start reading right off the web site.  I've done that a 
few times, especially on dates.  you want to look capable and confident even if 
the girl doesn't mind reading off the menu.  :)

I find it turns the menu process into a discussion.  We can jump around through 
the menu, compare notes, share likes and dislikes, take turns finding something 
and ask what the other one thinks of it.  It's great fun.
