I have noticed that more of the big chain restaurants have Braille menus. The
problem there is that many restaurants change parts of their menu for the
seasons, etc. and the Braille menu may not contain all that is available, and
the prices may be out of date. Also, restaurants often offer specials that are
on a separate little menu. Online menus are neat, but some use flash or
javascript, and may be difficult or impossible to read with a screen reader.
Some restaurants are starting to offer apps, which are easy to use if you want
to review the menu on site.

Sounds like a good idea. I go online and research menus before I go to eat. It
would be nice to have it all in one app.

  Hi folks,

I am working on an app called All Access Menus that is designed specifically
for the blind, low vision, deaf, and hearing impaired communities.

It features menus that speak to you, and for you. We have tens of thousands
of menus in the system so far, and growing. It knows where you are and shows
menus nearby. You can choose categories of food as well.

It is designed to use VoiceOver to provide a summary of the options, but also
has text-to-speech to give you hints, and if you cannot speak, it can speak
your order for you.

We should be rolling it out within a couple of weeks. I am doing a focus
group with the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, here in
Rochester, New York next week and hope to incorporate their feedback.

Watch for it at http://AllAccessMenus.com or contact me at

I'm not wearing a diaper, so don't try to change me.
